OPHTALMOLOGY, an eye on developping, BE

Brussels is brimming with basements. This project saw us converting a typical basement in a Brussels ‘Bel Étage’ house into an ophthalmology practice. We retained the distinctive features of the building and, to minimise all visual interference, we made only the most minimal of simple additions where necessary. We felt that a soft, subdued light would be the most appropriate for ophthalmology appointments. This project remains a ‘work in progress’ as the client, who always has an eye on developing and expanding her practice, gets in touch every six years to make improvements and additions, whether that’s adding an operating theatre or extending her consulting room.
